Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in the vicinity of the Nanpihe Bridge Highway Maintenance Squad, Gengma County, Yunnan Province. It was named by Lan Chaohua et al. in 1983.


Lithology and Thickness

Shale and Siltstone. Dark-grey shale, siltstone and silty shale, intercalated with coal seams, with its lower part being intercalated with a small amount of siliceous limestone. Thickness is over 435.6 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Disconformable contact with the underlying Damingshan Fm

Upper contact

Regionally, the next younger unit is the Shifodong Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in the region of the Gengma and Yongde Counties. It is thicker in the north and thinner in the south. As in the southern part of the Gengma Flatland the limestone intercalations are increasing in amount in the middle and upper parts of the formation, with a thickness of 240 m.
